Everything you need to know about Black Friday 2019
It’s approaching that time of year again, when shopping for Christmas gifts takes up as much time as a part-time job, only - instead of boosting your bank balance - it wipes it completely clean!
But there’s one brief period where things get a bit crazy. A time where, in the past, we’ve seen feisty shoppers throwing punches to get their hands on a smart 40% discount on a new TV and car parks full to capacity for hours on end.
That day is Black Friday – but when is Black Friday this year? What deals can we expect to see? And, the question on all retail workers’ lips, when does Black Friday end?!
Here’s all you need to know about Black Friday 2019.
When is Black Friday 2019?
Black Friday always falls the day after Thanksgiving is celebrated in America, meaning that in 2019, Black Friday is on the 29th of November.
But don’t be fooled, because retailers will want to get your attention way before then!
Does Black Friday start early?
Last year, companies like Currys PC World implemented a ‘Why Wait?’ offer, allowing customers to get their hands on Black Friday savings more than 2 weeks before the big day – they even offered to refund the difference of any items purchased that decreased in price further on Black Friday.
Amazon ran a 10-day long Black Friday sale last November, while retailers like Argos, Asda and Boots all gave customers plenty of time to get their hands on some great offers. One of the lengthiest sales came from Carphone Warehouse, whose Black Friday sale lasted almost a month!
With so many retailers looking to get a head start on one another this festive season, we’re expecting deals to start rolling out as early as November 1st – so while you’re waiting for the fireworks to begin on Bonfire Night, keep an eye out for some early Black Friday deals on websites like Amazon!
How much discount do you get on Black Friday?
Your discount will depend almost entirely on where you shop, and what you shop for.
Last year, Brits spent almost £1.5 BILLION on discounted goods like TVs, games consoles, clothes and even furniture, with some stores offering discounts of up to 80%.
One of the most popular Black Friday purchases last year was the Amazon Echo Dot smart speaker, which was being sold at a whopping 60% below its RRP in practically every store you can think of.
Black Friday holidays – Black Friday holiday deals 2019
Black Friday is always at a pretty bleak time of year (unless you’re a November baby!). It’s cold, always raining, gets dark at 4pm and Christmas still seems like a lifetime away – so nobody would blame you for wanting to book a holiday!
Whether you’re planning ahead for next July or simply cannot face the British weather and need to get away ASAP, there are always some holiday bargains to be found during the Black Friday sales.
Remember, though, that you should also take out travel insurance to ensure that you’re fully protected. You can get a cheap travel insurance quote with Admiral here.
When does Black Friday end?
Officially, Black Friday only lasts for one day, meaning that it ends at midnight on Friday 29th November – however, many retailers will start their offers before Black Friday, and many will continue with the sales into the weeks after as well.
At the very least, Black Friday deals will stretch over the weekend commencing Saturday, November 30th and into Cyber Monday.
What is Cyber Monday? And when is Cyber Monday 2019?
Cyber Monday is the name given to the Monday after Thanksgiving (and Black Friday) which was created by retailers that wanted to encourage online sales. Cyber Monday 2019 is on Monday, December 2nd.
Now, online sales don’t need to be ‘encouraged’ as such anymore (online sales increased by almost 50% year-on-year last Cyber Monday), but the promotion is a great extension to what is already a busy period for shops and shoppers alike.
Are Cyber Monday deals the same as Black Friday?
Black Friday and Cyber Monday have merged somewhat into one another as more and more people turn to the internet to get the best deals.
Shoppers would originally fight through the physical crowds of customers on Black Friday before retreating back to the comfort of their homes to continue their money-saving into Cyber Monday, but now you can get most Black Friday deals online, too.
In truth, there isn’t usually too much difference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals and they’re both just marketing terms to encourage sales (there’s a reason these days are so close to Christmas, after all!).
Our advice will always be to shop around (both online and in-store) as much as you can, but these days many retailers offer similar, if not identical prices.
