Last month (April 2020), the Mayor of London - Sadiq Khan - stated that people living in the capital of the UK should be wearing non-medical/non-surgical face masks every time they use public transport, in order to slow down the spread of the Coronavirus.

He has also said that people should be wearing cloth face coverings when carrying out other tasks that involve interaction with the public, such as shopping.

For this to be effective, the face covering should protect your nose and mouth for the whole duration of your journey or shopping trip.

The UK’s Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, also confirmed that the public may be asked to wear facemasks when the lockdown measures and rules become relaxed:

“As part of coming out of the lockdown, I do think that face coverings will be useful, both for epidemiological reasons and for giving people confidence that they can go back to work.”

At Bobatoo, we understand that you may not want to purchase disposable masks on a regular basis due to the cost and environmental impact, so we’re here to provide a more eco-friendly alternative.

We are giving away 300 washable, protective face cloth masks for people to use while travelling or purchasing essential items, to help you stay safe while carrying out the tasks you want to do - with more confidence and at a lower risk.

The eco cloth masks have been made by Branded Face Cover in the UK and are branded with Bobatoo’s logo, and, most importantly, each face mask has been certified by the SGS.

What is an SGS certificate?

SGS stands for General Society of Surveillance (Société Générale de Surveillance was the original French name).

The company is the “world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company”, and helps to provide "the global benchmark for quality and integrity”.

This means that if you receive a mask from us at Bobatoo, it has been approved by the SGS and is safe to use.

Donate to charity and Bobatoo will match it!

Once you've submitted your details above, you will be sent a confirmation email from Bobatoo letting you know that your reusable face mask is on its way (if you don't get an email straight away, please check your junk folder!).

As the face masks are free to all applicants, we kindly ask that you make a donation to the mental health charity Mind, to help those currently struggling due to the Coronavirus pandemic, which is undoubtedly having a huge impact on everyone's mental health.

In your confirmation email, you will be given a link to Mind's website where you can make a donation (this can be as little as £1). If you choose to do this, simply reply to our email with a screenshot of your donation, and Bobatoo will donate exactly the same amount too!

Please note: Each applicant is not expected to make a donation; the decision to do so is entirely up to the individual.

Does a face mask prevent Coronavirus?

As stated by WHO, the World Health Organisation, “masks are effective only when used in combination with frequent hand-cleaning with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.”

Even if you are wearing a face mask, it is still highly important that you continue to follow social distancing and hygiene rules to help reduce the spread, such as washing your hands regularly and keeping a 2-meter distance from others. You must not rely solely on the cloth face mask to protect you from Covid-19 or any other illness.

Are reusable face masks sanitary?

Reusable face masks are hygienic only if they are used properly.

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommends that you wash your cloth face mask at least once every day.

If you’ve been wearing your mask while shopping or using public transport, you should wash it as soon as you return home - do not reuse it the next day without washing it.
