Cyber Monday UK 2019 – Everything you need to know
Most people recognise the term Black Friday and the hype that comes with it, but what about Cyber Monday? The no-longer-so-little brother of Black Friday which takes centre stage just a few days after the UK’s busiest shopping day – it’s basically the same thing, right?
You’d be forgiven for thinking that, but there are a few subtle differences which you’ll want to take note of when planning out your shopping this Christmas.
What is Cyber Monday? Is Cyber Monday only online?
Cyber Monday was initially established as an online-only version of Black Friday, where businesses that operated purely over the internet were able to get in on the cost-cutting action ahead of the festive season.
In 2019, however, most major high-street retailers are also established online retailers (Argos receives more than 1.2 billion hits to their website every year!). This means that it is no longer the online-only retailers that will be looking to boost their sales when Cyber Monday comes around.
What sites are having Cyber Monday sales? Does Amazon have Cyber Monday deals?
It would be easier to answer the question: what sites aren’t offering Cyber Monday deals in 2019!
We’d recommend keeping an eye out on all of the sites that you’d expect to have some great deals on (Amazon, eBay, Carphone Warehouse etc.) but don’t overlook some of the smaller sites – even your local butchers may have a special discount!
When is Cyber Monday 2019?
This year, Cyber Monday falls on the 2nd of December.
The date can change year-on-year, but it is always the first Monday following American Thanksgiving Day (the fourth Thursday in November). If you aren’t into your US national holidays, then it might be easier to remember that it always comes on the Monday straight after Black Friday.
What time does Cyber Monday begin?
There is no set time for Cyber Monday deals to begin; they vary from site-to-site. Some retailers will cut the red ribbon at 12.00am on the dot, while others will wait until 9.00am to start rolling out their discounted prices.
Come the tail end of November, you will start seeing adverts and social media posts detailing how and when you can get involved with the Cyber Monday shenanigans, so keep your eyes peeled!
How long is Cyber Monday? When does Cyber Monday end?
If life gets in the way and you miss out on the Cyber Monday discounts then fear not, because retailers continue to run the promotion into the following week – in fact, with Christmas so close around the corner, many keep their reduced prices for a while longer to entice last-minute shoppers into stocking up on gift sets, toys, gadgets and more.
Cyber Monday deals UK – Bobatoo’s predictions
You can never be entirely sure what will be included in the Cyber Monday promotions, but it is certainly worth a guess – after all, most of the products are similar (if not the same) year-on-year.
When Cyber Monday comes around, keep an eye out for:
- Cheap phone contracts – for both new and existing customers (many will throw in gifts like headphones or a tablet!)
- Discounted hoovers – from top brands like Dyson, GTech and Vax.
- Huge offers on TVs – whether you need a 24” for the kitchen or 65” for the front room.
- Deals on Amazon products – including great gifts like the Echo, Echo Dot and Fire TV Stick.
- Reduced games consoles – plus games, gaming chairs and headsets.
Is Cyber Monday the same as Black Friday?
The two days are not identical, but the truth is that they have merged together in recent years to create an extended period of discounts.
Sites like Amazon and Argos have dedicated sections for both Black Friday and Cyber Monday on their websites, but when it comes to it, many of the deals will be almost identical. If you see a good deal on Black Friday then don’t wait around to see if it gets cheaper on Cyber Monday – take advantage before it’s too late!
