What is GoShorty?
Whether you need to borrow a car or van to drive only for the weekend, one month or just one hour, GoShorty have got you covered - at an affordable price, too.
GoShorty is a new, up-and-coming short-term, temporary vehicle insurance company in the UK, providing no-nonsense cover for cars, vans, learner drivers and any driver from the age of 18 to 75.
You can easily get an instant quote from GoShorty online and get covered straight away. All you need to do is enter some details about the car you want to insure, for how long and information about yourself.
What type of short-term cover does GoShorty offer?
GoShorty provides three main types of cover for drivers who need insurance for a short period of time:
- Temporary car insurance
- Temporary van insurance
- Temporary learner driver insurance
They also have a temporary business car insurance option for those who wish to use a private vehicle for business use temporarily.
1. Short term car cover
GoShorty’s temporary car insurance policy offers both hourly and daily car insurance, covering young drivers from the age of 18 to older drivers aged 75, so if you need to borrow a car for a few days, you’re moving house or you’re a student borrowing a parent’s car while you’re back home for a few weeks, GoShorty really is an option for anyone, whether you’re new to driving or more experienced.
However, if you need to drive a commercial vehicle to transport goods or taxi passengers around (in exchange for fees), drivers must be aged 21 and over to purchase short-term cover (max 75-years-old).
2. Temp van insurance
If you need short term insurance to drive a van, GoShorty provides cover for drivers aged between 21 and 75, whether it is being driven for personal or business use. They do not have temp van policies for drivers younger than 21.
Whatever type of van you need to drive, GoShorty can cover a variety of vehicles, makes and models, and they will also provide cover for both used and new cars or vans.
So if you’re sharing the driving duties with friends or family on a road trip or you need to borrow a van for 24 hours to move a heavy and/or large item, you can get van insurance for a day, a few days or up to 28 days depending on your needs and wherever you need to travel to in the UK.
3. Temporary learner insurance
If you are learning to drive in your own car or one that you’ve borrowed from your parents, for example, GoShorty offers policies short term insurance for drivers under 21.
You can get temp insurance cover if you are a learner driver between the ages of 17 and 25 and the protection you get is fully comprehensive, so you can practise driving with the reassurance that you’re covered for all types of eventualities.
You have the option of choosing hourly, daily or weekly insurance, depending on the amount of time you want to be covered, and the maximum amount of time you can be covered for is 24 weeks.
An advantage of temporary car insurance for learner drivers with GoShorty is that their excess amounts are quite low, making it a cheap option for those new to driving.
How long can I get short-term cover for?
Temporary insurance is such a flexible option for drivers who don’t need to pay for an annual, standard policy.
With GoShorty, you can get car or van insurance for the following durations:
- 1 hour (as many hours up to 24)
- One day
- Up to 28 days
- One week, two weeks or three
- 24 weeks - only for learner drivers
Benefits of using Go Shorty
Get covered in minutes
It’s not a long, tedious process to get a quote with GoShorty at all. When getting a quote, it took us 32 seconds to complete the application form.
Then, if you’re happy with the quote provided, you can tap the ‘buy now’ button which will take you to another page where you need to complete a few more details about yourself, including your name, full address, mobile number and driving license number.
Once you have done this and made the payment, it really will only have taken you a few minutes to get covered!
Protected no claims bonus
If you are borrowing someone else’s vehicle and getting short-term insurance, and something happens to you or the vehicle during the policy’s start and end date, the main driver’s no claims bonus will not be negatively affected; it will remain in tact.
However, if you drive someone’s car or van without short-term cover, not only is this breaking the law (driving without insurance), but the main driver of the vehicle will lose their hard-earned no claims discount.
There is complete flexibility when it comes to choosing the duration of cover and you can get covered depending on your exact needs, whether you need it for 24 hours or between one and 28 days.
You can’t, however, change the policy once you’ve purchased it and you cannot extend your cover. If you need cover for longer, you’ll have to buy a new policy for the length of time you need it.
Once you have bought a policy with GoShorty, they will send you an email with all the relevant documents you need to prove that you are legally covered. This information will also be in the member’s area online, so you can access your policy details there if you wish or if you need to make a claim.
If you need to make a claim with your insurer, all the information you’ll need will be in your email or member’s area and you’ll need to report it to your insurance company within 24 hours.
