Breakdown insurance packages - what they offer
RescueMyCar offer four core levels of emergency breakdown cover:

Their cover is for cars, motorbikes and light vans, and RescueMyCar allows you to tailor your policy to suit your needs, ensuring that you only pay for the services that you want.
Rescue 1 – Local Breakdown Cover
RescueMyCar’s cheapest breakdown cover (and the most basic) is their ‘Rescue 1’ policy which comes with roadside assistance which will allow for a mechanic to tend to your car at the side of the road if you break down more than a mile away from your home.
If the mechanic can’t fix your car at the side of the road within an hour, they will take you, your car and any of your passengers to a local garage, your home or a destination of your choice (within 10 miles).
You get unlimited callouts, but are required to pay an excess fee of £40 if you need to arrange assistance.
Rescue 2 – National and Home Breakdown Cover (with excess)
Similarly to Rescue 1, this policy will grant you access to a mechanic to fix your car at the roadside in the event of a breakdown as well as transport to a nearby garage – in this case though, if the local garage provides you with the relevant repairs, RescueMyCar promise to either recover you and your vehicle to your chosen destination in the UK or provide you with alternative transport or overnight accommodation.
Another benefit of this upgraded level of cover is that, if you break down at (or within a mile of) your home address, you will still be able to request assistance from RescueMyCar – perfect for those frosty mornings when your car simply will not start!
The £40 excess fee still applies when requesting assistance.
Rescue 3 – National and Home Breakdown Cover (without excess)
A ‘Rescue 3’ policy with RescueMyCar is essentially identical to a ‘Rescue 2’ policy, the only difference being that you won’t need to pay the £40 excess fee in the event of a breakdown.
This might be a good option for you if you believe that you are likely to need assistance across the year as, despite the policy being slightly more expensive, you will save money in the long run by avoiding an excess payment.
Rescue 4 – RescueMyCar European Breakdown Cover
Planning to take your vehicle across the continent? A ‘Rescue 4’ or European Breakdown Cover policy will allow you to do just that, with the extra protection of a fully comprehensive breakdown cover to help you along the way.
RescueMyCar’s European Breakdown Cover is available on either an annual or single-trip basis, with short-term breakdown cover in Europe available for 5, 9, 17 or 24 days.
You will also be able to use this cover while in the UK, but only within the dates that you have selected – if you want UK cover all-year-round as well as European cover, you should opt for an annual policy.
RescueMyCar Key Cover
An optional add-on to all RescueMyCar emergency breakdown cover policies is key cover, which provides up to £1,500 worth of cover for any lost, stolen or damaged car keys, as well as any keys for private property, like your garage or office.

Am I covered if I have an accident?
Yes – if you have an accident while on UK soil, you can contact RescueMyCar 24/7 and they will assist in the recovery of your vehicle.
If you weren’t at fault for the accident, they will also help to recover any losses which your insurance doesn’t cover and arrange a for you to receive a hire car.
When does my breakdown cover start?
If you have chosen for your breakdown cover to begin immediately, you will be covered precisely 24 hours after your purchase – alternatively, you can arrange for your emergency breakdown cover to begin on a date of your choice.
Can I cancel my RescueMyCar breakdown cover?
As per UK law, you have 14 days from the date of purchase within which you can cancel your breakdown cover policy and receive a full refund, as long as you have not made a callout.
If you wish to cancel your breakdown cover after the 14 day cooling-off period, you will not receive a refund.
Can I use the service if I don’t have a policy?
cover policy. However, this comes at a premium of at least £100. Non-members will get access to a mechanic for 1 hour and mileage charges up to 20 miles.
Does my policy automatically renew?
Yes – your RescueMyCar breakdown cover policy will renew automatically when your current deal expires, using the payment methods you originally paid with. You will be notified about any changes to your policy and premium prior to your renewal date, giving you ample time to cancel.
Can I modify my membership?
Yes – your membership can be upgraded or downgraded either at renewal or at any time during your period of cover. You cannot make changes which will provide cover for an incident that has occurred previously.
Is there an age limit on vehicles covered?
In the UK, RescueMyCar will only cover vehicles aged 25 years and below. Across Europe, this threshold is reduced to 16 years.
Am I covered for running out of fuel with breakdown cover?
Yes, but only in certain circumstances. You will be covered if you have run out of fuel because of an electrical or mechanical fault, but not if you simply forget to fill up.
