Who is So-Sure insurance?

So-Sure is an expert mobile phone insurance provider and has been providing cover since 2016, focussing on ‘making insurance fairer, reliable and rewarding for honest consumers all over the world’.

So-Sure introduced the idea of ‘social insurance’, which allows customers to team up with friends and family members to save money by being safe and not claiming on their phone insurance policy.

So-Sure insurance is available for most mobile phones and, unlike some other providers, even offer cover for second-hand and refurbished devices

Also unlike other phone insurance companies, So-Sure do not offer cover for any other devices; all of their effort goes into making sure that their mobile phone cover is the best that it can be, for all of their customers.

So-Sure also offer low excess payments for those who can verify ownership of their smartphone via the So-Sure app – you’ll need to sign in with your So-Sure login and upload an image of your phone’s screen to verify that it is not cracked.

By proving that your phone is both in your possession and in full working condition, So-Sure are able to cut potential excess payments by up to 50%.

What is ‘social insurance’?

So-Sure prides itself on offering social insurance, but what exactly does that mean?

As a So-Sure insurance policyholder, you are able to ‘connect’ with anybody else (usually friends or family) who also have a policy – this can be done through text, email or via WhatsApp. The more connections you have, the more money will be added to your ‘reward pot’ – at the end of the year, if nobody in your group has made a claim, you will be rewarded the full amount.

As well as receiving the full amount from your ‘reward pot’, you and your connections will also receive up to 80% back on your insurance premium when you don’t make a claim for a whole year.

So choose wisely and make a pact with your friends and family – and avoid connecting with your accident-prone buddies at all costs! Of course, you can take out an individual insurance policy without connecting to anybody else, but you won’t receive the money-back benefits.

How much does So-Sure phone insurance cost?

The cost of your phone insurance premium will depend almost entirely on the make and model of your device, with more expensive phones (unsurprisingly) costing more to insure.

An iPhone 11 Pro Max with 512GB of storage, for example, costs £15.49 per month to insure with a retail price of £1,499.

On the other hand, a Samsung Galaxy S9 with 64GB of storage (which retails at around £500) can be insured for £7.99 per month.

So-Sure Reviews – What do customers say?

When judging the service offered by a company, it is sometimes wise to check out what other customers have had to say; the best way to do this is by looking at customer review websites like Trustpilot.

So-Sure review on TrustPilot

Customers were extremely pleased at how little time it takes to set up an insurance policy with So-Sure. Many were also impressed by the customer service provided in the event of a claim, with the So-Sure online chat offering ample assistance when needed.

Despite the overwhelmingly positive reviews, there are a handful of customers who have left negative reviews about So-Sure. Most of the critical reviews are in regards to the fact that the replacement devices offered after a claim are not brand new and instead refurbished to a high quality, while the lack of a So-Sure phone number means that customers can only contact the customer service team online or via email.

If you need to speak to a So-Sure advisor over the phone, you’ll need to request a call-back.

So-Sure – Make a claim

When making a claim with So-Sure, you’ll be asked to fill in a short form online. After this, your claim will be reviewed by a member of the So-Sure claims team who will request any further information necessary. Once your claim has been accepted, you will pay your excess over the phone and So-Sure will aim to have your phone repaired or replaced within 72 hours.

If your phone is lost or stolen, you’ll be requested to contact your network in order to block your phone and request proof of barring and proof of usage documents. You will also need to contact your local police station to request a crime reference number.
